Independence Day Mongolia 2017

Date:
Friday, December 29, 2017

National Independence Day is celebrated in Mongolia every year on December 29.

This day marks the Mongolian independence declaration from Manchu Qing Empire and establishment of the Republic of Mongolia.

By the end of the 17th century once powerful Mongolia was weakened due to decentralization.

Ligdan Khan signed the treaty with the Ming dynasty of China to protect the northern border of Mongolia from the Manchus attack.

After his death in 1634 most of Inner Mongolian tribes were submitted to the Manchus, who founded the Qing dynasty of China.

After the Xinhai Revolution in China in May 1911 the Qing dynasty was overthrown and Mongolia under the Bogd Khaan declared its independence on December 29, 1911.

The newly established Republic of Mongolia wasn't strong enough to protect itself and already in 1919 it was occupied by the Republic of China and in early 1921 by Russia.

The Mongols celebrate their National Independence Day in a wide range, that is why many festive events are organized.
